Sleep Explaining Why This Break Is So Significant For Everyone

admin | July 28, 2009

Sleep is the type of rest that is enjoyed by humans and animals. When at sleep, we hardly ever answer to the spur of the real world, oftentimes because we are so taken by our very own dreamland. Yes, our body may be at rest, but modern studies have confirmed that our brain is on the go during sleep. Sleep has different stages. There’s a phase for dreaming or making memories. There’s also a phase when we are made to feel relaxed, good enough for collecting vigor for the following day.

Sleep may just appear to be part of a daily drill, but it is more important than we think! During our lively hours of the day, some neurons are weakened, and the only solution to regenerate them is plenty of sleep. You can see the forgetfulness, lack of mental absorption, and mood swings of individuals who lack sleep. It is because of the letdown of some brain components, which is caused by too much mental activity during active hours.

It is also at the time of sleep that protein and hormone production is coordinated. Most of the time, the parents compel their little ones to sleep because it is at this period that the human growth hormone is liberated by the system. The protein molecules heal our body from cell to cell which then prevent the bad effects of free radicals and daily stress. Sleep is also one of the secrets to keeping a fine appearance, as one of its benefits is the renewal of the skin.

The number of necessary sleeping hours varies from different age group. The newborn babies, when they are used to the world outside of the womb, can sleep as much as 18 hours per day. Toddlers can sleep up to 15 hours. Preschoolers can doze off up to 13 hours. Teenagers can have deep slumber up to 11 hours. The adults and the elderly can sleep up to 10 hours. But an average of at least 8 hours sleep is already deemed healthy.

As a whole, sleep is very important to sustain our overall balance. Sleep has been proven to be valuable for physical stability, mental alertness, and life longevity. As much as possible, we should not deprive ourselves of some real good slumber.
