admin | March 10, 2010

Looking for relief for the aches and pains you have been suffering from? sick of using numerous prescription drugs? Why not try acupuncture therapy? The purpose of this old form of Chinese therapy is mainly to provide relief for all kinds of ailments. This method has been used for thousands of years and is known to provide good results. This form of therapy sees to the flow of energy in the body through paths called meridians . Acupuncturists are able to name specific areas along these meridians, commonly known as acupoints or acupuncture points, which are then stimulated by the insertion of thin needles. This provides relief for all your disorders as the energy travel to the vital points in your body.

Most patients who think about undergoing acupuncture therapy are discouraged because they are afraid of the pain that may come with the procedure. This is not true. Acupuncture is known to be almost painless although you may feel something like electrical pulses through your body each time a needle is inserted into these acupuncture points. Bleeding may occur slightly, although not very common. Patients may not feel any changes straightaway. It may take up to 10 sessions to notice results, although this may vary from one person to another.

It is essential for you to remember that this cannot be followed through by anybody. If you are considering acupuncture therapy, you must find a qualified licensed acupuncturist! It could be very risky to visit just anybody who claims to be an acupuncturist as great care must be taken with regard to the needles being inserted into acupuncture points, to prevent infection.

There are thought to be 365 acupuncture points along the 14 meridians of the body. However, this has multiplied over the year with acupuncturists discovering more acupuncture points along meridian lines. Most acupuncturists however follow the conventional acupuncture points.

A list of such acupuncture point and the troubles and diseases that each point can cure have been developed, used as a rule of thumb by many acupuncturists

A few examples of such acupuncture points include an acupuncture point on the side of wrist, along the heart meridian, which is said to heal heart diseases and mental disorders. Similarly the conception vessel meridian consists of an acupuncture point to heal menstrual and other abdominal disorders.
