Importance of flossing

admin | May 23, 2008

While most people brush their teeth everyday many forget to floss. Some dentists will tell you that flossing is even more important than brushing your teeth. You should brush your teeth two and sometimes three times daily. You should floss at least one time a day. At times we all get a little too lazy to floss and most of us probably don’t even realize how bad it is hurting out dental hygiene. Many believe not flossing is even worse than not brushing. Flossing not only prevents gum disease but it also cleans those areas that your toothbrush cannot.

The bacteria that are formed due to not flossing can lead to a number of major oral issues. This bacterium eventually results in acid. Acid begins to eat away at your teeth and results in cavities. A sulfur compound may also form due to the bacteria. A sulfur compound is what causes the mouth disease halitosis or commonly known as bad breath. These bacteria will also turn into plaque. Then plaque left in between the teeth will become a much harder substance called tarter.

Tartar is so hard it is impossible to remove with your everyday tooth brush. The removal of tartar must be done by a dentist. The cost for having tartar removed from your teeth can be extremely expensive which is why it is better to try and prevent it before it ever happens. Tartar can in turn lead to even more serious oral issues. If tartar is not removed it will provide breeding ground for the bacteria this will result in gingivitis. Gingivitis usually starts when the bacteria releases toxins that irritate the gums and make then run red and swell. Tartar which isn’t removed can also turn into periodontal disease.

Once bacteria begin to build and not only affect the gums but the bone as well is when periodontal disease occurs. The bones are the structure of your teeth and hold your teeth in place. If you get periodontal disease your teeth will likely begin to fall out. You should never allow your teeth to get into this shape. Brushing a couple times every day is an excellent way to prevent some of this however flossing once a day too will prevent most of these diseases. Floss is very cheap and be purchased at nearly all local general stores. If you don’t floss regularly start now before it is too late.

So it is summer time again and you are ready to get on in the sun and have a little fun. You forget your sunblock last year and ended up sun burnt to a crisp. More than likely you will be using sunblock to protect yourself from the sun this year. It doesn’t take more than once time to make you make the right choice. The UV Rays from the sun can drastically increase the aging of your skins and even cause skin cancer. Some sunblock contains synthetic chemicals that some people will have an allergic reaction to. Some people even have more serous complications due to the synthetic chemicals found in their sunblock. You should instead use organic sunblock which doesn’t contain these synthetic chemicals that may cause allergic reactions. Organic sunblock works just as well as any other sunscreen.

Organic sunblock is much more effective at protecting you screen than sunscreen. Organic sunblock is known to block almost ninety eight percent of the sun’s UV rays. It is also much better for anyone who has extremely sensitive skin but needs and extremely strong sunblock. Organic sunblock is good for children as well. Some organic sunblock contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help restore, calm and protect the skin. Organic sunblock doesn’t have the environmental pollutants contained in many sunscreens. Organic sunblock is all organic or all natural and is much healthier for the environment. Organic sunblock is usually the same price as all other sunblocks and sunscreen.

Check the labels on the sunblock before buying it. You should avoid harmful chemicals such as cinnamates, salicylates, benzophenones and parabens. Avoid sunblocks with chemical preservatives. Also avoid sunblocks with artificial fragrances and chemical dyes. Zinc oxide is the most common chemical used to protect the skin from the so and has been proven to be safe so make sure it is use in your sunblock. It is estimated that a one forth to one third teaspoon of sunblock is enough for our faces. Please remember just because the sunblock is organic doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue reapplying it to your skin from time to time. Organic sunblock wears off just as much as sunscreen does so always keep an eye on that.
